Model guidance — intensity

Colours show the percentage of the 50 members with first detection after H0 within each 5° × 5° cell and the selected window. Each member counts once per cell. Systems already present at H0 are excluded. Cell percentages must not be added together.
As linhas representam cenários individuais; as posições mostram apenas dados existentes no prazo selecionado.

Notas e fontes
Forecast tracks and intensities may differ between techniques and updates. Model guidance is neither an official forecast nor a probability assessment.
📖 Glossary
- AIFS e IFS
- Modelos do ECMWF. O IFS utiliza equações físicas da atmosfera; o AIFS utiliza inteligência artificial.
- ATCF and techniques
- Cyclone tracking data format. Each technique identifies an official forecast, a model or a model consensus.
- Bacia tropical
- Ocean basin used to organise tropical system monitoring.
- Categoria e Saffir–Simpson
- Hurricanes are classified from 1 to 5 by maximum 1-minute sustained wind. The category does not measure rainfall, flooding or storm surge.
- Ciclo, UTC e prazo
- CIMSS, CIRA e RAMMB
- Research and monitoring institutions and products providing tropical cyclone analyses and imagery.
- Forecast cone
- Area of uncertainty in the future centre position. It does not represent the cyclone's size or delimit all areas that may be affected.
- Consenso
- Forecast combining results from several techniques or models.
- Tropical depression and storm
- Sistemas tropicais organizados.
- Dvorak, ADT e Dvorak digital
- Dvorak subjetivo corrigido
- Product presenting bias-corrected subjective Dvorak estimates, according to the source methodology.
- ECMWF
- European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
- Ensemble
- A set of forecasts used to explore scenarios and uncertainty. The tropical product shown uses the 50 available perturbed ECMWF members.
- Potential formation or genesis
- First detections of new systems by the model. A detection does not confirm that a cyclone will actually form.
- Hurricane and typhoon
- Regional names for intense tropical cyclones. Classification depends on the responsible agency and the averaging period used for mean wind.
- GFS, GEFS, HAFS, HMON e HWRF
- hPa, mb, kt e nmi
- hPa and mb are equivalent pressure units. kt means knots: 1 knot equals 1.852 km/h. nmi means nautical miles: 1 nmi equals 1.852 km.
- Invest
- Disturbance under special monitoring. This designation does not mean a tropical cyclone has formed.
- JMA, JTWC, NHC e NOAA
- Mediana
- Central value of the available members' ordered results. It does not necessarily correspond to a track produced by an individual member.
- Control member and deterministic forecast
- The control is the ensemble reference without the perturbations applied to other members. The deterministic forecast shows a single evolution calculated by the model.
- Membros perturbados
- Forecasts with small changes to initial conditions or model representation, used to explore uncertainty.
- T-number, Raw T, Final T and CI
- OFCL
- Official NHC forecast code in the ATCF data.
- Central pressure
- Estimated or measured pressure near the centre. In air reconnaissance, the minimum shown refers to the mission's available data.
- Formation probability
- In the ECMWF product shown, the percentage of members meeting the detection criterion within the specified area and period. This is not equivalent to official probabilities published by forecasting centres.
- Uncertainty radius
- Distance used to represent uncertainty in a forecast position, as defined by the responsible agency's product.
- Air reconnaissance, mission and HDOB
- SFMR and flight-level wind
- SFMR estimates surface wind using microwaves. Wind measured at flight altitude is a different variable and must not be compared directly with surface wind.
- Sistema extratropical
- System whose structure and energy source differ from those of a tropical cyclone. It can still produce strong winds and other impacts.
- Official track
- Future centre positions forecast by the responsible agency. These differ from individual model tracks.
- 1- or 10-minute mean wind
- Vmax and sampled maxima
- Vmax identifies the product's maximum wind. During a flight, the sampled maximum depends on available observations and may not capture the cyclone's actual maximum.
- Vortex
- Air reconnaissance message with information on the centre passage, including central pressure when available.
